Chengde Introduction
The city of Chengde is located in northeast Hebei Province .It is 225kilometers from Beijing,and has an area of 39,548 square kilometers, with a population of 3.45 million.
Chengde is a famous tourist City in China. It is located on the transitional zone from the inner Mongolia Plateau to the North Plain, with forested mountains and valleys and numerous fantastic stone formations on the surrounding mountains, of which the most striking are Mt.Luohan (arhat) and Sledge Hammer Peak.In 1985,the city was listed as one of China's Top Ten scenic Spots.
Chengde is one of the ancient cultural cities in China. It embraces the Mountain Resort, the largest and the bestpreserved imperial garden existing today in China. It took almost 90 years to complete the Mountain Resort during the reigns of three emperors of the Qing Dynasty. Chengde Mountain Resort
The Mountain Resort is also called Chengde LiGong or ReHe Palace, which is located in the northern center of Chengde city, a place where the emperors of Qing Dynasty spent summer and handled political mandate. It lies in a long-narrow valley along the bank of Wulie River, 230kilometers from Beijing. Its construction began in 1703, through 3 emperors' effort of Qing Dynasty: Kanghsi, Yongzheng and Qianlong, ended after some 90 years. Compared with Beijing Zijin Cheng, the Mountain Resort is relatively simple and elegant with its unique nature of the mountain village. It is based on Chengde's natural landscape and adapted characteristics of Jiangnan scenery, now the largest ancient imperial palace in China.
Eignt Outer Temples
The Eight Outlying Temples surrounding the Mountain Resort of Chengde are the largest group of imperial monasteries in the world.
The temple of the Potaraka Doctrine - Putuozongsheng Miao - was modeled on the Potala palace in Lhasa, Temple of Far-spreading Peace - Anyuan Miao - after Gurza Temple in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, Puning Temple after a monastery in Tibet, Pule Temple after the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, and Shuxiang Temple an exact copy of the original Shuxiang Temple on Mount Wutai in Shanxi province. The temples not only represent the magnificence of Mongolian, Tibetan, Uygur, Han and Manchurian groups, but also the unity of people of different cultures and origins.
Puningsi
When putting down the rebellion of Dzungar's Davatsi and Amursana Tribesin 1975,the 20th year of his reign, Emperor Qianlong offered a feast to heads of Dzungar.
Pulesi
The magnificent Pulesi £¨Temple of Universal Joy£©, built in 1766 (the 31st reign year of Qianlong),is loeated east to the Wulie River and west to the Qingchuifeng (Club Peak).
Anyuanmiao
The Anyuanmiao (Temple for the Pacificaiton of Distant Regions) was first built in 1764, the 29th year of Qianlong's reign.
Purensi
Built in 1713,the 52nd year of kangxi's reign,the Purensi (Temple of Universal Benevolence) was the earliest among the Eight Outer Temples.
The Mulan Paddock
The Mulan Paddock, familiar to many people, has been rated as a National Forest Park owning to its magic charm of a great grassland whose beauty was once described in a Chinese poem, like a peaceful and harmonious picture with a vast sky above, boundless grassland below and wind blowing the low grass then flocks and herds coming into view.
The Mulan Paddock, which in the past was the Qing imperial hunting grounds, has been well-known since ancient times as a natural park. From Emperor Kangxi to Emperor Jiaqing, the imperial families frequented the grounds over 100 times to enjoy the green grass, clear water, and rare animals and birds living deep in the forest.
Today, the park is still full of natural beauty, with lush green grass and beautiful flowers. Tourists may ride horses, pick flowers, slide down grassy hills, and ski in the winter. The Mulan Paddock is located in Weichang Manzu in the Mongolian Autonomous County and covers an area of 1,685 square kilometers, including the Saihanba National Forest Park.
Jin Shan Ling Great Wall
8 kilometers at the southeast of Bakeshiying of Luanping County in Hebei Province is Jinshanling Great Wall. Starting out in the east at Wangjinglou, the Wall stretches westwards for 10.5 Kilometers to Longyukou. The wall was built during the Ming Dynasty,the period of Emperor Hongwu (1368---1398),and was repaired for more than once during the reign of Emperor Hongzhi and Zhengde.¡¡¡¡
It is a section of the Great Wall under the control of Gubeikou, and there are 5 mountain passes and 67 different enemy broadcasting stations. It is based on huge rectangular slab of stone and built with bricks, and each bricks weighs 12 kilograms . In the smooth terrain, the wall is 5 ---8 meters high ,the base is 6 meters wide and the top is about 5 meters; In the sheer terrain, the cliffs cut the outside of the wall. On the top of the Jinshanling Great Wall, it has crenel walls on the outer side and parapet walls on the inner side. Each crenel wall is about 2 meters high with crenels in higher part , shooting stone holes in lower parts and battery platforms on the wall. Parapet walls were built with watching holes and shooting holes.

The 8 Land Treasures consist of Hashimuo, camel humps, Koumo mushrooms, Fengzhaomo mushrooms, Yumizhen corn, Shafengji chickens, and ptarmigans. The 8 Sea Treasures consist of shake fin, cishen, fresh oysters, purple abalone, snake-headed fish eggs, balloons of slated cod croakers, and fish skin. ¡¡¡¡
